Product name: Aqua Brace

By Aqua Infinity

The common image of a drowning child is someone flailing and screaming, when many drownings in fact happen silently. Such drownings are difficult for parents and lifeguards to spot.

Aqua brace device to attract attention to a swimming child in distress. It is a wrist bracelet which can be pulled apart by children if they find themselves struggling in a pool. Once broken, the device releases a dye into the waters surrounding the child to notify surrounding lifeguards or supervisors. This dye is meant to distinguish the drowning child from other motion and splashing in the pool.

The bracelet is a circular tube of connected at both ends by a two part rubber plug, and holds a dye. A string is attached to a circular plunger inside the tubing, and to one end of the tubing. When a child pulls the bracelet apart, the bracelet the string pulls the plunger up to push the dye out of the bracelet, out of the two holes in the broken bracelet. The dye then diffuses and floats to the top. It is meant to be highly visible, so that lifeguards can identify the child in distress.

Aqua Infinity hopes to further develop this product as it is currently in its early stages of development. Most importantly, we plan to further research possible dye substances, and carry out more product testing. Once the product is complete, we plan to market it as a retail product to parents of young children ages approximately 5 upwards, and supervisors of aquatic recreation facillities.
