Product Design

In order for the device to work the user must place the entire shoelace knot (the bow, as well as the strings) within the loop of the device and tighten the shock-cord loop with the toggle in order to tighten the loop. Tightening the loop of the device enables the knot of the shoelace to stay in place.

Manufacturing Methods

Task Distribution

  • Each team member will be responsible for 15 total hours of commitment per week
  • 11 of these hours will be spent on production
  • The remaining four hours will be spent on distribution

    Preparatory Instructions

  • Buying products in wholesale
  • Shock cords will be cut into lengths of 10cm.
  • Plastic tubing will be cut into lengths of 1cm.
  • Epoxy will be used to seal the tubing over the end of the shock cord
  • Toggle consists of three components: body/frame, spring, and push part

    Assembly Instructions

  • Cut shock cord to 10cm length
  • Cut tubing to 1cm. length
  • Join ends of shock cord together so that the two ends will fit together into a piece of plastic tubing
  • Line the inside of the plastic tubing with epoxy
  • Cover the ends of the shock cord with the tubing and fill in any space inside with more epoxy
  • Let the epoxy glue dry
  • Place the toggle over the looped end of the shock cord
  • Repeat the process to complete the pair of devices

    Internal Operations

    Shock Cord

  • Wraps around laces holding the device to the sneaker
  • Elasticity provides tension to better hold the laces tight

    Tubing

  • Holds the loop of shock cord together using the epoxy
  • It also acts as a barrier for keeping the spring toggle on the loop

    Epoxy

  • Holds the ends of shock cord together and fills space in tubing

    Toggle

  • Grips the shock cord using its spring mechanism, which makes it possible to tighten the loop around the laces
  • Keeps laces tightened by sliding up and down the shock cord

    User Instructions

    Installation

  • Remove product from packaging
  • Lace the device to the top intersection point of the laces
  • Note – This will require unlacing of the shoes

    For Use

  • Tie laces and push the loops and ends through the shock cord loop
  • Tighten the loop around the laces using the spring toggle
  • To remove device, loosen toggle and pull out knot
