Testing
Testing thus far has consisted of the issue of opening the door. Further simulations involving actual children trying to open the barrier is obviously key to the success of this product. Furthermore, testing the barrier under various heat stresses is another area of testing that is important, but will likely not be imperative given that our present choice of design material, Plexiglas is able to withstand temperatures of up to 400 degrees celcius.
Further Design Considerations
The composition and materials of our product are components to its functionality; thus, further research into more appropriate and efficient materials, keeping cost in mind, is an important step. Research into more functional design choices is also needed, especially regarding the way in which the barrier attaches to the stove or countertop. This particular research area is of prime importance to satisfying both the criteria of making our product simple to install as well as the criteria of minimizing burns (that is, avoiding installation errors that would sacrifice the efficacity).
Market Considerations
Research need not only be concentrated on the physical aspect of the product itself; market research is another essential component in securing the functionality and practicality of our product, especially considering the recent inception of the idea and its lack of experience in the marketplace. We additionally hope to be able to create a strong marketing campaign for the device, which will have the added effect of increasing awareness of stove-related safety issues in general. Finally, as our operation continues to grow, we hope to be able to offer more customizability to our customers, such as integrating our product with the form of specific kitchen counterspaces (by providing unique installation onto certain stoves), or through a more flexible outlook on the aesthetics of our design.
Other Work
At this time an important step for this operation would be to secure the requisite manufacturing and distribution infrastructures and consolidate them under one, unified system so as to effectively deal with customer demand. This infrastructure will extend to the Internet, where e-business applications can synchronize with our ground-based operations.
